The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00noon on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Carr officiating.
Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers ,MI.
Mr. Thomas Charles Cooke, age 77, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2013. He was born July 15, 1935 in Elyria, Ohio, the son of the late Boyd and Maude Cooke.
Mr. Cooke graduated from LaGrange High School in 1953 and later from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1957. Tom served his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.
Mr. Cooke worked for Consumers Power Co. in various construction management positions on fossil, nuclear, and hydro power plants, gas pipelines and gas compressor stations, as well as a steam heating plant and underground steam main. Upon retirement, Tom did contract work, volunteered as construction coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, held various church positions, and had been a Scout Committee member before retiring. Tom and Jan currently attend Corey Church of the Nazarene and formally attended Center Park United Methodist Church. They were also involved in TRAM mentoring.
Tom and his loving wife of fifty five years , Jan who were united in marriage on August 24, 1957 enjoyed family vacations, camping, hiking, traveling to new destinations, square and round dancing, boating, and card games with family and friends.
Mr. Cooke was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Aaron Thomas Cooke.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, wife, Janice Cooke, of Three Rivers; four sons, Bill (Karen) Cooke, of Clarkston, MI., Mike (Lisa) Cooke, of Ceresco, MI., Matt Cooke, of Orlando, FL., and Ray (Christel) Cooke, of Thompsonville, IL.; sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother, Bill (Judy) Cooke, of Temperance, MI.; and one niece and nephew.
Memorials may be donated to Boy Scouts of America, for their stand on Christian principles and Corey Lake Church Day Care Envelopes available at Hohner Funeral Home; P.O. Box 1018; 1004 Arnold St; Three Rivers, MI 49093 in care of arrangements.
