Obituary Notice

Robert O. Yandell, age 90, of Three Rivers, passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at The Birches in Leonidas, MI. He was born March 18, 1924 in Norman, OK, the son of the late Willie and Ethel (Russell) Yandell.
Bob grew up in West Los Angeles, CA. After attending University High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. during WWII, serving in England as an airplane mechanic. Shortly after his discharge he was united in marriage to Lurlene J. Ketchie on September 26, 1946.
Bob ran his own excavating business before going to work for the City of Los Angeles. After retirement from the City he moved to Three Rivers to be near family where he continued working part time at Fibre Converters for a number of years.
Bob’s interests included cars, motorcycles, NASCAR, football, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Later in life he developed a fondness for making wooden yard ornaments and one just might mysteriously show up in your yard unannounced. A recent honor was his trip to Washington DC on the Talons Out Honor Flight for WWII veterans. His primary passion was his family and especially time spent with his great-grandchildren who called him “Grampy”. He was often referred to as “Smiling Bob”. His infectious smile had a way of making others feel special. He loved his Lord and was a member of Riverside Church.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and all ten of his siblings. He leaves to treasure his memory his loving wife of 68 years; two daughters, Linda (Charley) Poe, of Layton, UT., and Donna (Jim) Stuck, of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Lisa (Glenn) Brumley, Mike (Lori) Spurgeon, Laura (David) Posey, and Bryan (Nicole) Stuck; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be donated to Talons Out Honor Flight, P.O. Box 280, Portage, MI 49024.

One of the kindest men I have ever known and it was always a blessing to be around him.

Bob's smile was his trademark, which only was the doorway to his kind heart and great wit. He loved anything homemade in the area of food, and often would say, "Did you "build" that?" He loved his family, and we were the recipients of 2 of his yard ornaments. We display them proudly!

Your dad was part of that Great Generation of men and women who lived life honorably and finished well. He deserves the reward he is now experiencing.
