Service Details

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the Hohner Funeral Home. Pastor Mike James will officiate.

Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.  

Obituary Notice

Mrs. Leoda H. Candelaria, age 88, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Edgewood Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on January 31, 1932 in Bradford, Arkansas the daughter of the late James and Fannie (Acklin) Allen.

On September 3, 1952 Leoda was united in marriage to the love of her life, Mr. Santos M. Candelaria who preceded her in death. They moved to this area in 1960. Leoda worked for the Three Rivers Hospital for many years until retirement in 1994. Leoda was a member of the Church of Christ in Portage, MI.

Mrs. Candelaria was preceded in death by nine siblings.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two sons, Steven and Gary (Brenda) Candelaria, both of Marcellus; four grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Candelaria, Sarah (Jason) Parker, Ashley Candelaria, Christine (Matt) Kessler; five great-grandchildren, Addie, Oliver, Claira, Kaya and Elena; sister, Willie Mae Velez.

Memorials may be donated to Kindred Hospice, 1911 W. Centre Ave. Ste. 1, Portage, MI 49024.

  1. So sorry to here the loss of our Aunt Leoda!!! She was so special to my mother Brenda Myers and me Kristy Myers and all of our family. Always had a smile on her face no matter what. She was always cutting up with all her brothers and sisters. We wud get to see her 2 times per year and it was always such a special time when she would come down to visit. Aunt Leoda we will always love you and you will forever be in our hearts and thoughts. Until we meet again. RIP sweet angel.

    Leoda was such a wonderful true lady.
    I worked with her for several years.
    Wonderful worker. She took pried in everything she did.
    Great memory of when Leoda & her sister went to Vegas
    with a group from the hospital. I’ve never laughed so much!
    Jason, We first met you at preschool.
    You, Casey & Michelle were all stinkers!
    I can laugh now. I cried then.
    Many fond memories of you & Casey.

    • Thank you Millers, for your kind words. I hope all is well with everyone during these tough times. Thanks for the story and I wish I remembered Pre-School as much as you did. Sorry we created tears, it was most likely Casey’s fault.

  3. I love aunt Leoda I live with her and my uncle tell I turn 18 they were so great to me I work with my uncle that was the best years of my life I will never forget the days wen I live there my uncle called me jimbo I love both of them rip aunt Leoda tell uncle and mom I love them

  5. Aunt Leoda you were so sweet-personal ways had a kind word for everyone. We send our love from Your Newphew Sonny great niece Shelli, great niece Rhonda to your sons Steve and Gary. Didn’t get to spend a lot of time together but the time we did we enjoyed. Our condolences to your family.
