Obituary Notice
Loretta Dawne (“Dawne”) Underwood passed away on June 3, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was 88 years old.
Dawne was born on December 1, 1937 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Her father was Percy Woodrow (PW) Ligon, and her mother was Ira Laverne Donahoo. She was the oldest of five children; her siblings were Charles, Percy Woodrow (JR), Jack, and Bobbie Jean. They lived mostly in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, although the family did move about some during the war years. She was particularly close to her maternal grandmother Laura Bloomfield, also of Arkadelphia.
Dawne married William (Bill) Underwood Jr. on December 1, 1958 and relocated to Three Rivers, Michigan, where Bill had an extensive family. She was a Three Rivers resident for 61 years.
In September of 1959 she gave birth to her only child, Marie Goodwin (Randy). She was a stay at home mom, but as an excellent seamstress she sewed for others, and sometimes babysat. She loved gardening, sewing, playing games, music, cooking, crafting, and reading. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Temple Baptist Church, and later Three Rivers Bible Church. She loved cooking and doing projects supporting the Eastern Star and the Masons of Three Rivers and surrounding areas.
Dawne and Bill bought some land on Broadway Street in Three Rivers where they built a modest home. She had a green thumb and spent a tremendous amount of time making the yard beautiful.
Dawne’s youngest sibling, Bobbie Jean, who she called Jeanie, also lived in Michigan, allowing her to be close to her and her two daughters Amy, and Kate.
As she aged, and was losing her eyesight, she made the difficult decision to move where Marie lived in Texarkana, Texas, which was about an hour south of where she’d grown up. This gave her the opportunity to see her brothers occasionally. A few years later, Randy and Marie moved to Colorado and then to Kansas City, and Dawne moved with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, grandparents, her brother Charlie, and her closest friends Jeanette Ridgley, and Dave and Vivian Blasius.
Dawne is survived by her daughter, Marie (Randy) Goodwin of Kansas City, MO. her grandchildren, Sarah Goodwin of Salida, CO, Laura (Alex) Dereszynski of Buena Vista, CO, Isaac Goodwin, Joel Goodwin, and Wendel Goodwin all of Kansas City, MO, her great grandson Jack Dereszynski, her sister Bobbie Brown and her nieces Amy Slocum and Katie Brown, all of Muskegon, MI, and her brothers Percy Woodrow Ligon of Camden, Ark. and Jack Ligon of Dallas, Texas.

Marie & Jeannie, I remember the days & evenings playing canasta & filling our tummies with her delicious garlic popcorn. Her hummingbirds at the feeders on Broadway were such fun to watch & her flowers were some of the most beautiful around. She was so generous with the abundant produce from her small garden. She was a blessing to us all.
She loved you so! Thank you for that memory!
