Obituary Notice
Kathryn Louise “Bama” Brundige, 85, of Kalamazoo, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Crystal Woods, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born September 10, 1940 in Three Rivers, the daughter of William and Phyllis (Wright) Swanwick.
On February 1, 1980, she married Eugene Brundige. High school sweethearts who went their separate ways, they were reunited years later after an encounter at a gas station in which his brother asked her if she was single. The couple shared 42 years together, with travel a favorite activity – whether taking family Disney vacations, traversing America in a motor home, or the highlight of their adventures, visiting Australia.
Kathryn loved genealogy, which led her to the St. Joseph County Historical Society where she specialized in research on one-room schoolhouses in St. Joseph County.
She could also frequently be found by the lake at her Palmer Lake home. She loved to cook and to host family for holidays, and especially enjoyed being a full-time “Bama” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren – attending their sporting events and being there for all of their special moments.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sarah (David) Aviles; grandchildren, Mitchell (Jayme) Noonan and Mandy (Adam) Zywicki; great-grandchildren, Allison Noonan and Mason and Logan Zywicki; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Brundige; and two brothers, William and Robert Swanwick.
