Obituary Notice

Charlene Marie (Buckhold) Burmeister, 83, of Marcellus, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 3, 1941 in Marcellus, the daughter of Raymond and Lucille (Stage) Buckhold, and attended Marcellus Schools.

Graduating from beauty school in Kalamazoo, Charlene went on to do hair care for nearly 40 years. She owned House of Beauty shops in Marcellus and Portage and won awards for hairstyling in New York City.

On April 15, 1998 she married James “Jim” Burmeister in Leland, Michigan. They loved being together and participating in each other’s activities, such as restoring and showing cars.

The Burmeister family owned Lakeside Campground in Jones for 20 years; Charlene put her heart and soul into the campground with landscaping, decorating, and keeping busy with making everything nice. She also enjoyed painting, cooking, and passing on life skills to her grandchildren.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Keith (Kelly) DeWeerd and Randy (Mary) DeWeerd; daughter, Shelly Yax; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim, in 2011, and by two brothers, Keith and Gerry Buckhold.

Donations in Charlene’s memory may be directed to Three Rivers Hospice. Envelopes will be available at Hohner Funeral Home.

  1. Shelly, Keith, and Randy, my heart goes out to you all. Your mom was a special lady and I know she will be missed by many.
    I wish I would have met your mom earlier in my life. I will always remember her kindness and her smile. She was always welcoming whenever we came to visit.
    She made a mean cup of coffee and always had good conversation to go with it.
    Cherish the memories.
