Service Details
Her family will receive friends Saturday, January 31, 2026 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Porter Baptist Church, 12032 Teasdale Lake St., Constantine. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Randy Peterson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Calhoun Cemetery at a later date.

Obituary Notice
Kristine Kay Gushwa, age 73, of Jones, Michigan, passed away on January 14, 2026. She was born December 28, 1952 in Three Rivers, Michigan to the late Robert and Phyllis (Mohney) Kerr.
Kris graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1971. On August 8th, 1971 Kris married Terry Iven Wittenberg of Constantine. He preceded her in death on January 19th, 2004. On October 3rd 2009 Kris married James Gushwa. James preceded her in death on September 1st, 2023. They lived together on Robbins Lake in Jones, Michigan for the past 15 years.
Kristine was very active in 4-H serving as a leader for many years. She had served on the St. Joseph County Grange Fair Board and was always willing to lend a hand whenever needed with the fair. She was involved in the fifth-grade conservation tours for many years. She enjoyed traveling and traveled to Alaska and Japan with James. She was a member of Porter Baptist Church and loved her church family very much. Kris was strong in her faith and belief in the Lord. She enjoyed her Bible study group and the comfort that it brought to her. She worked in the medical field as a CNA for over 20 years before she retired.
She is survived by her children: Kevin Wittenberg, Brian (Samantha) Wittenberg, Sandra Kruszka, Karen “Kay” (David) Yearicks, II, David Gushwa, Stacie (Jeremi) Hale, and Stephen (Ashley) Gushwa. Grandchildren: Kirstin Wittenberg, Brady Wittenberg, Terri Kruszka, Tearra Pratt, and Tyler Shali. Several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Additional Information
Donations in Kristine’s memory may be directed to Porter Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Hohner Funeral Home.

I have very fond memories of Kris, having attended St. John’s Lutheran Church with her when we were growing up. My condolences to her loved ones.
