I did not know Norma well, but she was in the background as her husband, Bill, was my track coach from 1972 to 1976. My blessing to the entire family.
Norma Swanwick was an amazing mom to her children and their spouses when I knew her all those years ago. She was welcoming and loving to all of us. She was wonderful and certainly will be missed. My sincere condolences to the Swanwick family.
Dear Swanwick Family, We are saddened that you have lost your dear Mother and Grandmother, but we are happy to know she loved the Lord and you will see her again. Just as Jesus’s loved ones seen Him again, eating, teaching, loving them. Norma was such a gentle person. She always made us feel comfortable to talk with. Her loss of her dear husband Bill, was carried with her all her remaining years. We give her Grandchildren our comforting words, “You will see her again!” We especially think of Calvin, our Great Grandson Boston’s, friend, whom we watch play many sports together. May the Lord comfort you all.
My deepest condolences to the family. Norma truly made a difference in so many lives.
Mrs Swanwick was one of the best teachers teachers I had in high school. A tough teacher by some students standards, but one that inspired her students, and cared. I last saw her in late 2003 after my first deployment to Iraq when I had stopped in and saw her Bill Dobrowlski and Bob Critz. The conversation with her is one of those that any former student cherishes, especially when a teacher tells them that they are proud of the person you have grown to be. My deepest condolences to the family, and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
So sorry for your loss. Her legacy carries on and continues to flourish. Lean on His strength during this time and may His peace surround you all.
As a Rookie Teacher back in 1982, Norma and Bill Swanwick were so kind and welcoming to this city boy from Grand Rapids. I was beginning my career two weeks into the school year following the last minute retirement of my predecessor. I felt lost and unsure but they embraced and encouraged me. Those years were the solid foundation to a blessed career spanning 40+years for me. I am forever grateful for the impact Norma had.
Mrs Swanwick was a very special history and government teacher. As a student of hers she made history come alive. Returning as her principal it was truly eye opening to find the depth of her dedication as she planned family vacations at history sites so she could bring the best information for her students. Mr and Mrs Swanwick were both special educators and as they chaperoned dances they amazed the students with their dancing ability. It was an honor to know Mrs Swanwick and her family. Rest in peace dear teacher.
I am sorry for your loss. Peace to you and your family.
Our prayers go out to the family. Norma was my neighbor growing up, she was a year ahead of me in school. I graduated with Bill & was a member of his church. I have fond memories of the both of them. Norma loved teaching & was well liked by most everyone she came in contact with.. She will be missed! The family is in our prayers.
Norma was the person I have known the longest outside of my family members. We were neighbors in third ward in Three Rivers. We played together as children before kindergarten even. We started school together and graduated high school together. Norma was a terrific person and we remained friends forever. I am saddened by her passing, but I do understand the time and age we have achieved. I will miss her because of our friendship, and it is sad to see parts of our lives over. Norma was a wonderful person.
Mrs Swanwick was such an amazing History/Government teacher. She made me love history! She will be missed. My condolences to Kathryn and the whole family. Your mother/grandma touched so many lives.
Mrs. Swanwick, was a great history teacher and I always enjoyed her lessons. She will be missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
I just heard the news from my brother back in Michigan.
The planet has lost a wonderful woman!
Although I haven’t spoken to her in 38 years, I just want the world to know she was my favorite teacher in high school. She challenged you and made learning history and government a FUN subject (at least for me). There will never be any one like her!
Not only was she a remarkable teacher, but she had integrity, empathy and passion which are all dearly missed today!
My thoughts and condolences go out to the entire family, especially Mary who I graduated with and Kathryn who worked with my mother.
I drove bus for many of the grandkids and would pick up at Normas home. In 2010 I was getting ready to go on maternity leave and she got me a gift for my soon to be son. She was such a kind woman. She loved her family so much.
Mrs. Swanwick was my mentor throughout my years at Centreville. She helped me with many of my emotional issues I dealt with in high school. She always found time for me. Whenever I saw her after I graduated and at the school picking up her grandkids, she always made a point to ask how I was doing. She was a loving and caring person. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. 🙏
Norma. you were a great teacher of mine in 1965, and subsequently a good friend and supporter over the years. You positively affected many in life. Bless you and family. You are now with the Lord.
