Service Details

Visitation will be held Friday, October 30, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Hohner Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert Bartz officiating. A video of the service is available here. Interment will be held in Moorepark Cemetery following services.

Obituary Notice

William “Bill” Andrew Walter, 86, of Three Rivers, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020. Bill was born November 20, 1933 in Three Rivers, the son of the late William Willis and Eleanor (Schumm) Walter. He graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1953. Bill served his country honorably in the Naval Reserves and later in the U.S. Navy.

After released from the service, Bill began work as a tool and die maker working for Fisher Body for 29 years and also Wells Manufacturing, Production Tooling, and Square D. Bill enjoyed woodworking, stamp collecting, playing golf and was an excellent baseball player in his younger years. Many fond memories are shared of the cottage in Ellsworth, MI. where he and Ruth and family and friends spent many a vacation as well as traveling the states. Bill was an avid and faithful member of the St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and was always available to lend a helping hand.

Bill’s true love was family, he was a faithful husband, father, and grandfather. His main goal in life was to bring joy and comfort to his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. His selfless service to his family, his church, his work and community will always be remembered by those that knew him.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth I. (Schwab) Walter; daughters, Janice Ashley and Lucinda (David) Walter; son, William Scott (Diana) Walter; grandchildren, Amber (Trent) Walter-Babcock, Karla (Jonathan) Booko, M. Alex Ashley (Samantha), Kathryn (Jayson) Gesmundo, Paula Walter and Pamela (Steven) Riggs; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Tommy, Zayden, Julia, Kassandra, John, Taven, Lincoln, Jack, Alexa, Kyle, Leo, Zoey and Asher; brother, James (Delores) Walter; nephews, James Walter Jr. and Frederick Walter; niece, Melody Walter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Roberta Walter; and sister-in-law, Debra Smith.

  1. I have wonderful memories of our family visits to see Uncle Bill and Aunt Ruthie, Always such a fun time even with snow up to your buttocks!!! Uncle was warm and kind and always made me feel loved! Gentle but strong! I will love you always and forever be grateful for the many times with the entire Walter family 💜 My prayers and hugs go out to all of you and may God bless y’all today and always 💜☮️

      It was wonderful knowing Bill and Ruth and the Walter family. May you have comfort knowing that Bill’s life in this world was a blessing to many. Leaving behind this earthly life, and those he loved, he has finished the race and reached the goal of eternal life with Christ.   3. Rest in peace Bill. You were a good man and respected by anybody that knew you. My sincere condolences to his wife and family. Bill and Ruth were honest, hardworking and friendly people and society today could use a lot more like them. Bill will be missed by anybody that knew him.
