Obituary Notice

Woodrow Ralph Thompson, Sr., 82, of Three Rivers, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 27, 1943, in Detroit, the son of Ralph and Arlene (Phillipi) Thompson, and graduated from Mackenzie High School Class of 1961.

Woodrow earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Michigan State University Class of 1965 and went on to own a successful construction business (Willow Lake Construction/Development) and a successful Hunting Preserve (Willow Lake Sportsman’s Club). In expanding his hunting preserve knowledge, he was co-owner of Kikuyu Lodge in Alexandria, South Africa.

Woodrow was a lifetime avid hunter and sportsman. He loved the outdoors, hunting with his kids and his best friend (dog) Max.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his 6 children, Woodrow Jr. (Sheila), Kristen Braun (Joeseph), Wendy Fourie (Jacques), Kate Mazich, Wade (Heidi) & Whitney VanAvery. 18 Grand Children, Heather, Woodrow III, Shada, Emma, Dani, Darrick, Alexa, Andrew, Cody, Cheyenne, Paige, Wyatt, Lane, Easton, Taylor, Reed, Rowan and Case. 11 Great Grandchildren, Callie, Chance, Hayden, Joseph, Douglas, Halen, Theodore, Ashton, Ella, Luca & Mila.

Woodrow was proceeded in death by his parents, Ralph and Arlene, brother Bob and sister Carol Nowling.

  1. Both Lori and I were so very sorry to read of Woody’s passing. We have so many great memories of the time we spent with him during and after The Apprentice Hunting Program. He truely was one of the most kind and generous people we have ever known. Hugs and best wishes to all of you, may you find peace and comfort during this time and moving forward.

  2. Very sorry to hear of Woody’s passing. I have many of fond memories of him as well as all of his family members. Our condolences go out to all of you and we will be keeping all of you in our prayers as you go through this time together.

  3. So sorry to hear about Woody, Sr. During our children’s growing up we sat on many benches together at their sports events. We celebrated birthdays together, we spent many hours together getting Sports boosters in gear. Woody was an amazing husband, father, grandfather & a good friend.
