Service Details

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Hohner Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Homan officiating.

Interment will be held at South Park Cemetery.

Obituary Notice

Mrs. Mary Jeanette Motz, age 84, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, May 13, 2019 following a brief illness.  Jeanette was born on June 13, 1934 in Three Rivers, MI, the daughter of the late Duane and Maxine (Brown) Knapp.

Jeanette has been a lifelong resident of Three Rivers except for the two years she, her late husband Gary, and their three children spent in American Samoa where Gary worked for the US Department of Education.  She graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1952, and Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music.  Jeanette was a lifelong member of the Three Rivers Bible Church where she served as a Deaconess, was active in Missionary Circle, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  She also was a member of Circle 4 Extension Club.  Jeanette worked at Continental Can and later at Denton Mills.  She and Gary were very active on their farm, selling “Motz” Sweet Corn and traveling, especially taking many cruises.

Mrs. Motz was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Gary Motz, who passed in 2003 and one sister, Delores Middleton.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, three children, son David (Lois) Motz, of Three Rivers; two daughters, Becky (Tim) Schuler, of Centreville, and Ruth (Pat) Bradley, of Three Rivers.  Two sisters, Joan Evilsizor and Shirley Rice.  Three brothers, James (Reba) Knapp, Billy Knapp, and Ronnie (Helen) Knapp.  Eight grandchildren, Tracy (Rob Booth) Motz, Dan Motz, Andy (Megan) Motz, Nathan Schuler, Nicholas (Hannah Grove) Schuler, Kyle (Cory) Bradley, Alyssa (Alex Hoopes) Bradley, and Grant (Kelly) Bradley.  Three great-grandchildren, Calvin and Henry Motz and Haven Booth.  Also many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be donated to Three Rivers Bible Church or Three Rivers Health Hospice.  Envelopes available at the funeral home.

    .She and I had a common relative. aunt Pearl Walters that we always shared stories about.
    She came to all class reunions and will be missed by many

    I am so saddened to read of your mother’s passing. She and your dad were treasured friends of my parents, Gordon and Cheryl Reinel. I hope they are all reunited and “catching up” in Heaven! My love to you all, and uplifted prayers for comfort as you grieve.

    My heartfelt sympathy to you all! I was saddened to hear of Jeanette’s illness and sudden passing. She has been a sweet friend. I remember the fun we had together on our trip to Florida in 2007. She enjoyed the camping experience, but was not helpful with the map reading. “Gary always did that,” she said. I will miss her, but know she is now rejoicing with Gary in Heaven!

    We were saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Motz.
    We will miss her heartfelt correspondence. We always felt like sending her a thank you for her thank you.
    Although we will not see her for awhile, we will feel her presence in the family she raised and loved.
    We celebrate her joy today and our prayers and thoughts are with all of you in this moment of sadness.
    She is a good and “wunnerful” person.

  5. David & Lois, Becky &Tim, Ruth & Pat, & families—- On behalf of the Bavin family I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to you on Aunt Jeanette’s passing. It was so sudden but from experience I know that it is a blessing that way. I know that she is happy now being with Uncle Gary again. I have so many happy memories of the family gatherings we had and all the fun we shared. I love you all very much and wish that I could be with you. I know how much your support helped me during Joe’s funeral, My prayers are with you all for peaceful days ahead!

  6. Jeanette and I have been friends for 80 years. We met in kindergarten. We laughed together and enjoyed each other’s company through all those years. My husband, Jim Stahl, was Gary and Jeanette’s best man, and Gary was our best man. Rest well, dear friend. I’ll miss you.
