Brent Thomas Whetter, 56, of Kalamazoo, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at home.
He was born August 18, 1966 in Kalamazoo, the son of George and Kay (Whitney) Whetter.
Often described as a gentle soul, Brent was an avid reader and musician.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Katrina Whetter; parents, George Whetter and Kay Whetter; sister, Kimberly Lomax; nieces and nephews, Jason, Rachel, and Sabrina.

I met Brent when I was just 16 years old. I remember Brent was a voracious reader and I believe, had a photographic memory. I never knew one person who knew so much about a million different topics. He was utterly fascinating to talk to and we shared lots of interesting conversation in our short time together. In addition, Brent was artistic and an extremely talented musician, he was honestly the only person I ever met that could play ANY instrument without ever even seeing it before – it was truly a gift. Thinking back, Brent was really my first “true love” – and when we barely out of High School and living in Detroit together, I found out I was pregnant. That child is our beautiful daughter Katrina, who I have the privilege of living near and seeing on a regular basis. In many ways, she shares many of his talents- she is brilliant, fascinating and very musically talented.
When I heard of his passing, I realized I had not seen Brent in many years, but he will be missed. Rest in Peace Brent.
