Obituary Notice

Carole Marie Scoates, 83, of Mendon, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Edgewood Health & Rehabilitation.

She was born April 16, 1940, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Nathan and Ruby (Krueger) Hancock.

Carole worked as an RV delivery driver for Horizon Transport. She loved traveling and seeing the country. She delivered travel trailers all over the United States and Canada. Her favorite place was Alaska.

On June 16, 1986, she married Richard Scoates. They traveled across country by motorcycle for their honeymoon and fell in love with the Colorado mountains. They later settled in Michigan and worked together in the RV business. They loved spending time with family and their dog, Pugs.

Carole crocheted and cross stitched. She would make gifts for friends and family. She learned to sew and made many of her children’s clothes. She also loved refinishing furniture, a trade she learned from her mother. Other past times she enjoyed were shooting guns, fishing, and canoeing.

She loved her family and cherished the time she got to spend with them. She would always plan a picnic when her children were growing up, often by the Mississippi River or Como Park. She continued the tradition with her grandkids whenever she got the chance. Anyone who knew Carole, knew she had a fun, loving personality and would joke and tease. But she would also be there to listen and offer guidance for a friend in need.

Remaining to cherish her memory are children, Dean (partner DeeAnna Pendarvis) Dybvik, Dawn (Kurt) Walton, Darci (Troy) Kohagen; step-children, Deborah (Michael) Disher, James (Jeanette) Scoates; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. She is survived by one sister, Patricia Christner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, in January 2024; daughter, Darla Dybvik; great-grandson Sean Blom; and great-grandson Taj Disher.
