Service Details

In accordance with family wishes, cremation will be conducted. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Three Rivers Church of the Nazarene, 1221 Coon Hollow Rd., Three Rivers. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Derl Keefer officiating.

Obituary Notice

David Wayne Welton, 69, of Three Rivers, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024 at Centrica Rose Arbor Place, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 12, 1955 in Pontiac, the son of Wayne E. and Kathleen (Fisher) Welton, and graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 1973.

David earned a bachelor’s degree at Olivet Nazarene University and became a pastor of two different churches. After moving to Michigan, he ran a lumber company; in 1994 he became a builder and owner of Welton Homes and built over 300 homes in St. Joseph County and the surrounding area.

He was an avid golfer and was the secretary of the Three Rivers Rotary Club for many years. He loved spending time with family, close friends and especially the GrandKids and Great Grandkids.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Holley (Greg Lafferty) Welton-Sangalli; son, James (Jennifer Lee) Welton; grandchildren, Benjeman (Kileah) Hackenberg, Andrew (Ashlynn) Rodaks, Christian and Addyson Maurer, Alyssa (Evan) Mertens, Lucy Abnet, Cataleya Welton, Austin Welton and Preston Welton; great-grandchildren, Atley, Waylon, and Esmé Hackenberg, Rain and Gray Rodaks; sisters, Kathy Heck and Jill (Mike) Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Blake Welton, in 2023.

  1. Dave, you fought a good fight. Life thru ya lemons and you made snickers. Or Ice cream? One of those things a dang diabetic shouldn’t do. But you managed it. My solo runs to Ann Arbor give me plenty of time to reflect on our friendship and know this: I miss you. You were truly an inspiration when we weren’t busy taking a break from inspiration and being conspiratorial! I hope you’re laughing as much in heaven as we had opportunities to do here. But I imagine that initial start comes with awe!

  2. I’m so sorry to read this about your dad. He was a great guy and friend. He always had a smile on his face. I know how hard it is to lose a dad as I miss mine so much. Keep his memories in your heart and hugs to all of you. He will be missed.. ♥️

  3. Dave was a kindred spirit to my late husband. Glad he is no longer suffering but heartbroken that he has loved ones who will miss him dearly. Praying for his children and sisters. We know this is not the end and that gives us hope and peace.
