  1. Sad day yesterday in the Jones house in the uk, Don was my uncle and the only uncle I had, as a kid Don, Pauline, Gary, Kerry and Jodey used to visit every few years, this was a highlight of my childhood, special days out with our American family, holidays to Scotland and nights sat around the kitchen table, I never wanted to go the bed when they where here, although I vaguely remember not having a bed when our American family where here as our house wasn’t that big!
Days and weeks that I never wanted to end, sleepless nights sat up talking with Kerry and Jodey even though I had to be in school the next day.
We’d often used to go for days out and I’d always want to go in the car with Don driving, or sit with him round the table asking him a million questions about America and the Air Force.
I can still hear Dons soft voice and remember the cowboy boots he wore.
Then the time to say goodbye again, tear stained eyes waving goodbye at departure gates, wishing they could stay forever. One memory was after they had gone I’d search the house for any bits of American treasure left behind.
    Good night uncle don xx
    Dave

  2. Don and I joined the Air Force together on Sept 2, 1955. Took basic training at Sampson AFB, N Y and went to our first assignment at Lockbourne AFB, Ohio. He went to England and I to France and we were then assigned together at Kincheloe AFB, Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. I did not return to Three Rivers to live but did get to visit Don on return trips. Don was also the best man at my wedding on Oct 12, 1957. My condolences to Pauline and the rest of the family. RIP Don until we meet again.
