Obituary Notice

Donald Lynn Angell Jr., age 75, was born in Highland Park, MI on May 26, 1947 to the late Donald and Gladys Angell and passed away in Three Rivers, MI on January 16, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jean Marie Angell. His family includes siblings Theodore “Teddy” Angell, and sons James and wife Jessica and Steven and wife Nikki, and Theodora “Terry” Lootens, along with her daughter and son-in-law Hollie and Todd Arnold and their children Christian and Shelby. His children are Robert Hoeppner (wife Abigail and their children Joy and husband Chris; Adrienne, husband Manuel; and Angeli, husband David, and son Phoenix); Kevin Kesseler; David Hoeppner (wife Marey and their children David Jr., wife Nicole, and children Serenity and Sebastian; Joshua and wife Hailey; Christopher John and daughter Catherine Jean; and Stephanie, husband Brandon, and children Everleigh and Abigail); Michelle Clason (and daughter Haley); Michael Angell (wife Kelly, children Madelynn and Isaac); and Sharilyn Angell (children Izzy, Rowan, and Gabriella).

Don worked in landscaping and earned his B.S. in Horticulture from Michigan State University in 1977. He and Jean were married on December 29, 1990 in Colorado Springs, CO and later owned and operated the Golden Pine Center, a convenience store in Atlanta, MI. He was also the Deputy Treasurer for Avery Township as well as a member of the local Airport Board and Board of Review. He was a friend of Bill W for the final 33 years of his life and always ready to help others. He could often be found sitting in the rocking chair at the Golden Pine talking about recovery with anyone that needed it.

He enjoyed music throughout his life, be it singing in the choir at high school or with friends at the Old Oaken Bucket at Oakland University, strumming tunes on his banjo, guitar, or ukulele, doing karaoke in clubs, or just singing together with his wife Jean. A lifelong Spartan fan, he was always eager to watch and talk about the latest Michigan State game. But, first and foremost, he liked to spend time with the people he loved, talking and laughing with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

  1. Jean and Family, My heart goes out to you. Don was all those thing that are described, especially the loving man. This takes me back to our pinocle weekends, and how he endured our smoking while playing cards.
I know it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you both, but you are forever in my thoughts as good friends. Xo Antoinette
