Obituary Notice

Douglas A. Walter, 70, of Athens, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Centrica Rose Arbor Place.

He was born on March 7, 1956 in Three Rivers, the son of Gerald and Reita (VanTuyl) Walter and was a member of the Three Rivers community until his early adulthood. He also lived in Hamilton, MI and most recently Athens, MI.

After being a jack of all trades, Doug settled into a career working with upholstery. He had an eye for artistry and detail which he used to develop his skill into a self-owned business for many years. He kept a collection of photos of his best work, which ranged from furniture to sports car interiors. If something needed a fresh look, Doug was your guy.

A true outdoorsman, Doug could always be found on a lake or talking about fishing. He was awarded the Department of Natural Resources Master Angler Award in 1999 for a record Lake Trout weighing in at 25 lbs. and 38 ¾ inches in length. He also enjoyed Nascar races and events.

Doug was always the life of the party, telling jokes and old fishing stories. If he tried to make you laugh, you knew he liked you.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Jason (Michelle) Walter and Michael (Brandi) Walter; grandchildren, Tyler Walter, Jasmine Scarlett, Ashton Walter, Paula Willett, Kayla Huntoon, Mandon Walter, Silas Walter and Layla Walter; brothers, Jerry Walter and Marlin Walter; sister, June Colter, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Marlin; sister-in-law, Bonnie Walter; brother-in-law, David Colter; and infant son, Steven Walter.
