Service Details
Services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 402 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where the family will receive friends an hour before the service. Rev. Andrew Raczkowski will officiate. Interment will be in Mendon Cemetery.
Obituary Notice
Edna L. Smith of Sturgis, MI entered into everlasting rest at Birch Meadows on Friday, June 21, 2024, with family at her side. She was the daughter of Emmie and Chester Barton of Mendon.
She graduated from Mendon High School with the Class of 1958, and attended Parsons Business School. She was married to Hayward Smith of Colon and later divorced.
Edna was a longtime member of Holy Angels Church. She worked at Abbott Nutrition in Sturgis for 23.5 years before her retirement.
A fine knitter herself, Edna taught many people how to knit. Many family members and friends have lovely warm things that Edna knitted especially for them. She loved playing golf with friends. She was an avid bridge player and was in a bridge club for many years. She was a fan of Notre Dame and hardly missed a game. Edna had many dogs over the years, especially much beloved Katy, and she truly enjoyed walking all of them.
Edna’s delight was her family. She is survived by her son, Martin Smith and wife Joyce; beloved grandchildren, Brooke Ringler and Skyler Smith; brother, Delbert Barton (Johanna); sister, Lucinda Tesch; special cousin, Dale Barton; nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph County Animal Rescue Fund, Holy Angels Catholic Church, or the charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Hohner Funeral Home.
