Service Details

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 with Pastor James Smith officiating.  Interment will be held at Constantine Cemetery.

Obituary Notice

Gertrude Verglea Gotfryd, age 93, of Three Rivers passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at her home.  She was born on September 29, 1927 in Jackson, MI the daughter of George F. and Beulah F.  Hamm.

Verglea was united in marriage to Fred E. Gotfryd in 1968.

She was an active member of Three Rivers and her community.   She owned and operated Paul F. Noecker Insurance Company for many years along with serving on Three Rivers Area Hospital Board for over twenty one years, First Savings Bank Board of Trustees for sixteen years, and Constantine Rotary.  Verglea was a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Three Rivers.  Upon her retirement she worked in accounts receivable at E.L. Nickell Co. for many years and enjoyed spending winters in Belleview, FL.

Verglea was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, and sister, Elsie (Hamm) Smith.

Surviving to cherish her memory are son, Rodney J. Easterday and granddaughter, Erika J. (David Parkhill) Easterday.

Memorial donations may be directed to Parkinson’s Foundation.  Envelopes available and also may be sent to Hohner Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

  1. I just heard of Verglea’s passing, I have never met such a warm and caring person. I have known her since I moved to Constantine. I would see her at Rotary and she always would give me a hug and ask how I was doing. She will be missed.

    We are sending our deepest sympathy reguarding the passing of Verglea. We purchased Fred & Verglea’s lake place on Long Lake. We will certainly keep you all in our thoughts & prayers. We have always been thankful to your folks…we have had many wonderful memories. They were very special & always so great to us! We will never forget them. Hugs & love always.

  3. Being out of state, I have just learned of Verglea’s passing. She was my first employer and was very generous, kind, and encouraging. The best teacher anyone could ask for. Erika, you were everything to her and her face lit up when speaking of you and your dad. I’m sorry I missed paying my respects personally. Rest In Peace, kind lady. Bonnie

    We had great times on our hospital
    bus trips to Chicago. When I think of Verglea, I also think of Lyda Nichols.
    They were great friends.

  5. My deepest sympathy to Rod and Erica on the loss of their dear mother and grandmother. Verglea was more like a sister to me than a sister-in-law.
    Along with our husbands we spent many years of good times together on Long Lake and in Florida. She was a beautiful person and will be missed. Rest In Peace loved one.

  6. I have know and done Verglea hair around 30 years. Always such a sweet loving person with a beautiful smile and such a huge heart. She will be truly missed . Love you Verglea and l know that we will meet again one day. My deepest sympathy to the family. Sincerely, Carol McCally

  7. Verglea had a beautiful soul. She loved coming into hair designs and conversing with the girls. I always looked forward to seeing her, she loved holding my hand and always leaving me with a lipstick kiss on my cheek. You will be missed and thank you for sharing so much joy and knowledge.

  8. My Aunt Verglea by marriage was one of the nicest people I remember during my childhood and early adulthood. Verglea and my mother, Girline Easterday Robinson, maintained regular mail and telephone contact for several decades. It was always a special treat to go Verglea’s beautiful home…a wonderful experience that I will never forget about. Verglea was very beautiful and very sophisticated! And, to my cousin Rodney and his daughter, I am very sorry about the passing of your mother (and grandmother).
