Service Details
In accordance with Harold’s wishes, a cremation has taken place, and a service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers. His family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with services beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Obituary Notice
It is with deep love and profound sadness that we share the passing of Harold Eugene Lane, age 80, of Three Rivers. He passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in the home he loved.
Born at home in Bronson, Michigan, on September 13, 1945, Harold graduated from Colon High School in 1963, after which he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for GTE for 27 years, where he made many lifelong friends. He was a proud member of the American Legion for 57 years.
Harold enjoyed playing tennis, running, hunting, and especially fishing. He treasured every opportunity to cast a line, enjoy the peace of nature, and share his fishing stories. He also loved reading and often finished four or five books each month. In recent years, he took up walking and proudly shared with everyone his accomplishment of walking 1,347 miles in 2025.
Harold was a man whose kindness touched many. His generous heart, caring nature, and quick wit left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Above all, Harold had a special love for his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather, affectionately known as “Gappy,” who cherished every moment spent making memories with those he loved – whether making them laugh, lending a helping hand, or sharing his wisdom. He found great joy in ensuring his family was well cared for and happy.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kate Lane; his daughter, Stacie Jackson; his cherished grandson, Justin Rodriguez; his sister, Barb Embler; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hilda Lane; his sister, Marilyn Lane; and his brothers, Robert Paul Lane and Marlin Keith Lane.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time.
Though he will be deeply missed, Harold’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

When Barb called to me saying Harold passed away, l asked Harold who. She replied Harold Lane. I was stunned, shocked and saddened. Harold and I have been very good friends for 50+ years. Our most memorable experience was during the 1978 blizzard. Another coworker came out to the house, he had a new 4 wheel drive truck and was able to make it to my house. I was amazed at US 131 we were the only moving vehicle passing abandoned semi’s and cars, for our 3 mile trek to the telephone office. As the snow kept rising up the window I asked Harold if he could get me home. He said he had his snowmobile in the truck he was sure we could get to my house on that. He was picking up operators to take them home and to the telephone office.
He got back to the division office where we got the snowmobile off the truck and got stuck in the first drift we tried to go over. We got situated again. I grabbed his snowsuit got as close as I could and off we went again. The wind was blowing so hard I put my head in my arm and closed my eyes the entire ride. When we got to my house we put the sled in the garage where Harold asked me if I had seen how close he came to hitting the pole in the front yard. Then I told him I had my eyes closed the entire ride.
After supper our son Andy took his first steps to Harold, He later said he was going home. That was around 7 PM. We almost begged him not to go out in that storm. He felt he could get home. I told him to call when he got home. It got to be 10 PM then 10:30 we wee both getting very concerned, about 11 I see the sled sliding through the driveway. He came in looking like SANTA his suit was bright red his beard was solid ice and his cheeks were Rosie red. He was exhausted. He said we wouldn’t believe what he had gone through. We had to help him out of his snowmobile suit. He could hardly walk. The next morning I was going to put gas in the sled to see there was very little left in the tank.

We are so sorry Katie, and Family, Harold was a Great Guy, He worked with Gene at First of America bank years ago and Gene really got to know Harold and enjoyed working with him, Harold and I share the same first cousins, as his Uncle Married my Aunt and we used to joke about it. Our Cousin Lloyd Lane retired from the phone company and he worked in Muskegon. Harold will be greatly missed, Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your daughter and grandchildren.
