His family will receive friends Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Freshwater Community Church, 600 E. Michigan Ave., Paw Paw, with Pastor Randy Peterson officiating.

Obituary Notice

Joseph William Sheteron, 42, of Marcellus, a man who served his country and his community, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026 at his home.

He was born February 27, 1984 in Kalamazoo, the son of Lloyd and Tomejo (Houts) Sheteron, and graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 2002.

Joseph came into this world as a 9 lb. 8 oz. beautiful baby boy, with the biggest blue eyes and fire-red hair. He was a partner in crime with his two brothers, terrorizing their sister. He was a professional firebug while camping and enjoyed spending time in nature.

His laughter was infectious, his smile had the ability to speak a million words, and his hugs could make everything better.

Joe enlisted in the Navy in 2002, where he was a CM 2nd Class who served in Iraq, Kuwait, and Spain. He participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism.

Locally, he was a member of the Three Rivers Police Department Auxiliary, Vicksburg Police Department, and Schoolcraft Police Department before joining the Cass County Sheriff’s Office in 2017.

Joe started his career with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office as a road deputy. Later he became a Field Training Officer who helped train new deputies how to be a deputy sheriff. Joe was a former member of the Sheriff’s Office tactical team and also a Firearms Instructor. He was promoted to the role of Detective in 2025 and showed that he was a skilled investigator. Joe was also a Union Representative and above all, a great friend of all.

He married Nicole Marie Fitch on October 3, 2009. Joseph and Nicole loved the life they built together; road trips, concerts, sporting events, fishing, traveling, and adventures with their children. But it was the simple moments they treasured most: laughing together, singing in the car, cheering on their kids, and rides in the square body. Their greatest adventure was the family they created and the memories they made along the way.

Joe loved his family most of all and enjoyed watching his children’s sports. His other passions included cooking and smoking food, hunting, fishing, and watching Michigan, the Lions, or the Tigers.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his father, Lloyd (Connies) Sheteron; mother, Tomejo (Walter) Gersitz; wife, Nicole Sheteron; son, Joey Sheteron; daughters, Joslyn Sheteron and Charlyse Sheteron; brothers, Lloyd (Sarah) Sheteron and Allen (Abigayle) Gersitz; sister, Jordyn (Clinton) Hunter; bonus brother, Joseph Timm; and many beloved nieces, nephews; two dogs, Chiquito and Charles.
