Obituary Notice

Kristen K. (Hicks) Borst, 49, of Three Rivers, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 21, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side.

She was born October 23, 1971 in Three Rivers, the daughter of Teddy and Sue Ellen (Jackson) Hicks. She attended Three Rivers Schools, graduating with highest honors in Class of 1989. During high school she participated in band, where she was first chair trumpet player, along with playing basketball, volleyball, and a member of National Honor Society. Kristen was an avid animal lover, showing horses all throughout her 4-H years. Kristen went on to graduate from Ferris State University School of Pharmacy where she was a member of Lambda Kappa Sigma Sorority. She worked for Village Pharmacy for many years. They were a wonderful support throughout her struggle. Her co-workers and customers in Colon did a lot to support her, selling T-shirts, etc., and her friends in Three Rivers had two fundraisers for help thru difficult times.

Her life revolved around being a doting mother to her daughters and faithful dedication to her career. She had an infectious smile and was a hero to all her family and friends. She had endless courage and her legacy will be treasured in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her beloved Grandma Dorothy Jackson; grandparents, Harry and Hazel Hicks; special aunt, Janine (Jackson) Lenderink.

Kristen leaves to cherish her memory two precious daughters, McKenzie Sue and Madelyn Jo Borst; her parents, Ted and Sue Hicks; sisters, Robin (Ray) Friel, Rebecca Weiderman, and Renee (Jeff) Draime. She had 14 beloved nieces and nephews who all adored her and 21 great-nieces and nephews; many extended family including aunts, uncles, and cousins.

  1. Kristen was nice, friendly, funny, smart, loving, and hard-working. If you knew her, you already knew all this and more. My condolences go out to her loving parents, siblings, children and extended family. She will be very missed by all.

  2. My thoughts and prayers to Kristen’s beautiful girls and family. We were roommates at Ferris and I have so many amazing memories of her! She was beautiful and always had a smile on her face. Kind to everyone with a heart of gold. She was and still is in my prayers daily. Rest in peace, beautiful soul.

  3. I was heartbroken when I heard. She was a princess warrior, such a fighter. My heart hurts for her daughters, her parents and siblings, and all of her extended family. You are all in my prayers! It was an extraordinary privilege to know her and call her a friend. She had the most beautiful smile, biggest heart, and the fiercest loyalty to her friends. She was one of my best friends from HS. We had the best of times, so much laughter, some tears, study sessions, band memories, fair moments, weekends spent getting into trouble or making our own fun, and of course, weddings and big birthday celebrations shared after college. She loved deeply and always wanted the best for those she loved. I will always remember her with a smile. The night I found out she passed, I pulled out all of our old photos, poured a glass of wine, and cried. She was so brave and had such fire. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and those who had the privilege to hold her hand in her last days. Thank you for the countless memories, Kristen. I treasure each one of them. My deepest sympathies to the whole family.

  9. My heart hurts for the entire family. Hugs to all of you. Kristen was one of a kind… strong willed, fun, smart, personable, professional, loving and caring and that’s just a few of her qualities, I could go on and on. Being the youngest of the “Hicks girls” she had a little bit of each of her older sisters in her and what a whirlwind she was and she passed that on to her girls!! She fought hard for as long as she could.. and she will be terribly missed by her friends and family, especially her daughters… take her memories and cherish them and make her proud, she will always be watching over you!!
