Service Details

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until time of services beginning at noon at Corey Church of the Nazarene, 10056 Water St., Three Rivers with Pastor Gary Carr officiating. Interment will take place in Rosehill Cemetery.

Obituary Notice

Larry L. Keene Sr., 82, of Marcellus, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021 at home.

He was born August 1, 1938 in Dowagiac, the son of Milford M. and Meta (Byrnes) Keene. After graduating from Dowagiac High School, he entered the Marines at age 17, and served for three years.

Larry worked at K&M Machine-Fabricating in Cassopolis, where he was a plant manager; South Shore Tool & Die in Baroda, North American in Three Rivers, and Houghton’s in Vicksburg. He served as the Marcellus fire chief and an EMT, the Marcellus village president, and Flowerfield Township clerk.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and his church family at Corey Church of the Nazarene. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling to Florida, working, driving, and sports – notably Detroit Tigers baseball and Michigan football.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan (York) Garrison Keene; son, Larry (Connie) Keene Jr. of Lawton; sons-in-law, David Hansen of Marcellus and Thomas Dalman of Marcellus; stepchildren, Laura (Gordon) Fries of Portage and Patrick Mullins of Constantine; grandchildren, Morgan (Scott) Byler, Zachary (Chelsea) Keene, Mallory Keene, David W. Hansen, Meghan (Brent Lundberg) Hansen and Ryan Hansen; great-grandchildren, Gibson Byler and Catherine Hansen; brother, Milford (Karen) Keene Jr. of Three Rivers; sisters, Linda Hutson of Zolfo Springs, Fla. and Bonnie (Ron) Sachse of Three Rivers; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene (Huyck) Keene, in 2001; daughters, Kim Dalman and Penny Hansen; sisters, Martha Wirick and Jackie Richmond; brother, David Keene; step-son, Sean Vollmar.

    Larry was a good man, he had a lot of personality, and a good sense of humor. I’m very sorry for your loss.
