Service Details

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Hohner Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4th, 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Antony Rajesh as celebrant.

Private interment will take place at Poe Cemetery.

Obituary Notice

Lawrence Sarhatt, age 86, of Three Rivers (Corey Lake), passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in Kalamazoo. Larry was born on May 10, 1932 in Flint, MI., the son of Mr. Ewas and Elishya Sarhatt. Larry graduated from St. Michael’s Catholic High School in 1950. Larry served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1961. In 1957 he received his bachelor degree from W.M.U. In 1960 Larry received his Jurist Doctorate from Wayne State University and then graduated from the F.B.I. Academy in 1961.

From 1961 until 1982 Larry served as a Special Agent and Special Agent in Charge for the F.B.I. until his retirement. In 1982 Larry worked as a self-employed private investigator and also was a Deputy Sheriff for St. Joseph County until 2002.

Larry was past President and member of the Board of Directors of Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, past Secretary and member of the B.O.D. for the Three Rivers Area Hospital. He was also past President and current member of the B.O.D. of Camp Wakeshma and Three Rivers Cotillion Club. Larry was a member of the Parish Council and 4th Degree Sir Knight of Immaculate Conception and the Knights of Columbus, Three Rivers. Larry was a past member of the B.O.D. for the Golf Coast Carvers Guild, Sarasota, FL., and volunteer wood carver at the Ringling Circus Museum, Sarasota, FL.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, son-in-law, Todd Hansen; three sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Elizabeth (Betty Haradine) Sarhatt; one daughter, Teresa Hansen and her son Jack Hansen; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Cherie) Sarhatt, and their children, Ashley (Kyle) Gervais, Kyle Greening, and Andrea Sarhatt.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Knights of Columbus or the Immaculate Conception Church. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

  1. My parents, Dale and Gail Easter, asked Larry and Betty to be my godparents when I was born during their time in the army together. Although I never really met them after the early years, I always knew who my godparents were and how liked they were by my parents. I just learned of Larry’s passing and wanted to express my sympathy to Betty and her family. My prayers are with you. Kim Miller

  2. Just learned of Larry’s passing. Bill Vericker spoke often of two wonderful friends he loved, Betty and Larry. I concur and am indebted to Larry for the guidance provided by this generous Catholic gentleman. All are in my prayers and thoughts. Another of the greatest generation, a role model, who will always be remembered.

  12. My prayers are sent to Betty and her family. I was shocked to read that Larry passed away. Larry was very helpful to me when I was the Administrator of Immaculate Conception School and when I worked at the former Johnson Corporation when I was co-chair of the Waterfest.
