Obituary Notice

Lewis E. Roberts Jr., 77, of Three Rivers, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

He was born June 17, 1946 in Three Rivers, the son of Lewis E. and LaDonna (Weinberg) Roberts, and graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 1964.

Lewie started his work career as a construction worker with Clifton Engineering and then with Bloom & Meyer. Next was Spring Tool Corporation where he worked in maintenance and did a lot of traveling to other countries in the repair business. Then he went to Parker Hannifin as the plant supervisor, and later to Summit Polymers as the maintenance supervisor where he retired. After retirement he drove truck for Roberts Excavating, Walther Farms, and H&H Farms. He always enjoyed “fiddling” with something.

On August 14, 1971, he married JoAnn Whitehead. He enjoyed going to upper Michigan with family for summer vacations.

Lewie loved fishing with his buddy, Paul Whitehead. Paul always managed to tip the boat over, so he got wet.

Even though he said he would never go on a cruise, Lewie took a cruise to Alaska. It was a very memorable trip for him. He always wanted to go to Glacier National Park which was a dream come true last year when the boys planned a wonderful trip for him.

He enjoyed camping and hunting; he was a member of the NRA, IHMSA, and St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club. The picnic spot was his place to sit on the bench and look at the river. He built a beautiful fire pit, and his family had many gatherings there.

Lewie also loved to just ride around the countryside and Sunday was usually a day to go for ice cream.

He was very proud of his family and loved watching his grandchildren in activities they were involved in, such as baseball and cheer competition.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, JoAnn Roberts; children, Chad Eugene Roberts (Liz Smith), Clint Lewis Roberts (Suzi Brown), Ezra Gray (Christa Langsdorf) and Laura-lee Wickham; grandchildren, Martin, Shelby, Gage, Vanessa, and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Aden, Bennett, Mary, Kayce, Campbell, Nolan, and Isaac.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Harley Roberts; and sister, Jacquline.
