Obituary Notice
Maynard H. Rumsey, age 97, of Three Rivers, passed away at Birch Meadows Senior Care on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He was born in Three Rivers on January 25, 1927, the son of Harley and Faye (Avery) Rumsey.
Maynard was inducted into the U.S. Army during March 1945. Following basic training, he was sent to Osaka, Japan as a part of occupation forces after the atomic bombs were dropped at the end of World War II.
After his discharge in late 1946, Maynard returned to his job at Eddy Paper Company, which later became Weyerhaeuser. He worked there for 44 years, the latter 20 as a supervisor.
Maynard married his wife, Joyce (Hay), on June 25, 1949. They were married for 73 years, until her passing on February 20, 2023.
Upon retirement, Maynard purchased a small farm where he enjoyed raising chickens, goats, and horses. He loved all animals, but his horses held a special place in his heart.
Maynard treasured his family, his many lifelong friends, and his special bond with those in the Amish community.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Debra (Gene) Schull; son, Dennis (Joy) Rumsey; grandchildren, Andrew (Amber) Schull and Alyssa Rumsey; and great-granddaughter Alison Schull.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Hilda Rumsey, stepbrother Wilbur Munson, foster sister Mildred Hull, and a grandson, Daniel Schull.

To all of Maynard‘s family,
I am so sorry to hear about Maynard‘s passing. He was a good friend and neighbor for many years. I miss him visiting around the neighborhood. I am sorry I will not be able to attend the services to say goodbye.
Deb and Dennis;
So sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Maynard was my supervisor for years at Weyerhaeuser and he was always positive and fair. We had many a laugh as we occasionally played a joke or got caught being the stinker that I was at the time. We set a few production records on the Ward diecutter with him. I worked with him from 1970 till his retirement. He was always happy to stop and talk after his retirement and we touched base numerous times at Bowman place. You should be proud as he was a keeper! Mike Heivilin
Deb & Dennis,
I am very sorry to hear about Uncle Maynard’s passing. He was a good man in so many ways. I truly enjoyed my visits with him and Aunt Joyce when I came back to Michigan in the summers for a visit. He will be greatly missed. My prayers are with both of you during this time of sorrow.
Dick

Oh Dennis I am so sorry to read of your dad’s passing! What a wonderful man he was … a true gentleman in every way! The picture at the top of his obituary captured his great smile and the way his eyes lit up when he shared that smile!! I had the pleasure of knowing your dad for over 60 years … since I was 12 and babysat for the Blasius kids when he and your mom would go out for the evening with Dave and Viv Blasius!!! Dave and your dad would tease me all the time!! 😂😂.
Your parents were so proud of their children and grandchildren! What a blessing to have him as your father! ♥️♥️
Terry and I send our deepest condolences and prayers to you and all your family.
Love from Terry and I in Arizona 🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻
To the Schull and Rumsey families,
Knowing Maynard’s grandson Andrew these past few years, and witnessing his integrity, character, and work ethic first hand, he seemed to be the product of a close and loving family. Reading about Maynard’s life and the people who knew him and loved him – including 73 years of marriage with Joyce! – I understand this just a little bit better. Life sometimes graces us with incredible people, and Maynard sounds like he was one of them.
We extend our sincerest condolences to your entire family, and to everyone who knew and loved Maynard.
It was always a pleasure to serve Maynard when he came into Boland Tire-TR. He was always very pleasant and courteous to everyone. Tim Hassenger formerly of Boland Tire-TR.
