Service Details
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, June 27, 2026 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Moorepark Community Church, 55701 Wilbur Rd., Three Rivers. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Pyenta officiating.
Obituary Notice
Phyllis Joan Varner, 89, of Three Rivers, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026 at The Orchards at Three Rivers surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 18, 1936 in Sherwood, the daughter of Walter and Ethel (Ware) Swihart.
Phyllis worked at the Kenco Corporation in Middlebury.
On October 27, 1968, she married William Varner.
Phyllis was a member of Moorepark Community Church. She enjoyed bass fishing, the Detroit Lions and Tigers, and especially country music. She belonged to Bass N Gals and fished in a lot of tournaments.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Randy (Tara) Kelley; daughters, Wanda (Dan) Bainbridge and Penny Johnson; Billy Varner II and Judy Varner; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Swihart and Rickey (Barbara) Swihart; sisters, Janette Kelley and Denise (David) Cook; special sister-in-law, Eunice Crossgrove; many other sisters- and brothers-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Varner; daughter, Lorraina Barnes; brothers, Harold, Clarence, Thomas, Ronald, Homer James, Charles, and Walter; and sisters, Carol Wadsworth and Connie Swihart.

Donations in Phyllis’ memory may be directed to the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging or to Moorepark Community Church. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Hohner Funeral Home.
