Obituary Notice

Phyllis June Weiandt, 82, of Three Rivers, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 21, 2021.

She was born August 30, 1938 in Three Rivers, the daughter of Leonard and Lillian (Freese) Peters, and graduated from Three Rivers High School with the class of 1956.

Phyllis attended Moody Bible Institute after which she married her high school sweetheart, Stephen Paul Weiandt, on July 11, 1959. For almost 62 years, they vowed never to leave home without giving each other a good-bye kiss which they honored to the end. Whenever they could, they enjoyed camping with friends and family, going on many trips during their days in Africa and here in the US.

Phyllis and Steve served as missionaries for 40 years with Africa Evangelical Fellowship and then SIM.  She was always up for a challenge. From delivering babies to teaching seminars for women, she was an “unflappable doer,” willing to serve the Lord however she was needed regardless of training.

After retiring from missionary service, Phyllis was a member of Howardsville Gospel Chapel and was involved with the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging, St. Joseph County Transportation Authority, and Three Rivers Area Mentoring.

She will be remembered for her sweet smiles, rides down the Rocky River, for time spent playing games and putting puzzles together, for bedtime stories and pecan pies, for the way she never complained and most of all caring very deeply for all those she loved.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her husband; sons, Stephen Mark (Michele) and Richard (Laurie); grandchildren, Paul (Isabel), Jonnie (Rachel), Phyllis Anne, Deborah, Andrew “A.J.” (Kira) and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Klara; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan “Jonnie”; granddaughter, Glory; brother, Lamar Peters; and sister, Joyce Bent.

  1. Dear Bro. Steve and family,

Your dear wife was truly a blessing to all that knew and loved her. Even though it has been decades since we have seen one another, I still remember visiting your home on Chamberlain Rd and the kindness that your family showed to ours. My name is Mrs. Becky (Sprunger) Towne, eldest daughter of Pastor & Mrs. Sam Sprunger (former pastor at Howardsville). Both my parents are now in Heaven, too. Thank you for your service as missionaries and to our Lord & Saviour!
