Roger Smith, 77, passed away on June 16, 2026.
Roger was born January 4, 1949, at Sturgis Hospital to Leonard and Leah (DeWitt) Smith. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1967 and was drafted into the United States Army, where he served during the Vietnam War.
In 1973, he married the love of his life, Susan Hageman. Together they built a life in Sturgis and raised two children.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Rocky (Elizabeth) Smith and Samantha (Jeffrey) Clouse; his brothers, Gary and Lloyd Smith; and his six grandchildren, Patrick Andersen, Edwin Andersen, Alexander Smith, Victoria Smith, Oliver Clouse, and Tucker Clouse.
Roger worked at Delta III and Burr Oak Tool and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help others. Those who knew him could always count on him to help whether it was to build a garage, fix a basement, renovate a kitchen, or lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, golfing in his Thursday night league at Green Valley, woodworking, and listening to oldies music. He loved spending time with lifelong friends, attending NASCAR races, canoeing and camping. He was often the life of the party and believed life was meant to be enjoyed.
After a lifetime of hard work, Roger and Susan retired to their home in the country, where he enjoyed his property, classic cars, traveling, and visits with family. He lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Our deepest sympathies on the loss of Roger (Smitty). Many pleasant times spent with both of you, and remembering the hours he spent working on my sister, Marie Smarts house, after Richard died.
Then making the trip to Kentucky for Sherri’s wedding, meant a lot to all of us
My very first memory of him was a hayride, where he “mooned” every passing car.

My mom thought Smitty was a hard worker, funny, and dedicated to his family. She was cousins with Suzi. She loved spending time with the Hageman’s. It was a special moment when Gus and I joined the Hageman’s in South Dakota to scatter Uncle Ed’s ashes. We have plans to stop by at the end of July. Love to you all. 😓❤️
Prayers to the family. I lived nextdoor to the Smith ‘s for many years and our kids were like family.
Im sorry , my condolences to the family. We were step related. My Grandpa John married his Mom Leah. I also remember him from bowling. Love to the family
My sincere condolences to the family. I knew Smitty from years ago, before he worked at Delta. He was always the light in the room, whether being silly, pulling a prank, or just making you smile. Always the first one to offer help. Some years later I worked with Sue. Even after all this time I haven’t forgotten the friendship we had. Smitty and Sue have always been two very special people. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for comfort and healing.
