Service Details

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Porter officiating. Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.

Obituary Notice

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Carroll and Marietta (Briner) Combs, passed away together on Saturday, July 6, 2019 in their home.  Samuel was born on December 6th, 1939 in Chavies, KY., the son of the late Jeff and Latisha (Duff) Combs.  Marietta was born on August 31, 1941 in Crothersville, IN., the daughter of the late Wilson and Lula Ann (Beringer) Briner.

Sam and Marietta were united in marriage on July 19th, 1958 and moved here in 1969.  In 1985 they opened Combs Cleaners where both Sam and Marietta could be found on a daily basis taking care of customers and making many lasting friendships.  After 26 years of service they retired in 2011.

Sam and Marietta were preceded in death by their parents, one son, David Combs; daughter-in-law, Sandra (James) Combs. Also several siblings.

Sam and Marietta leave to cherish their loving memory; four children, Sam (April) Combs, Dianna (Matt) Wilkins, Joe (Mendy) Combs, and Mark Combs. Fourteen grandchildren, Becky (Chase) Crose, Ashley (Tony) Foghino, Samantha and Taylor Combs, Courtney and Levi Wilkins, Joey and Kayla Combs, Mike (Samantha) Moser, Dianna (Ryan) Galbreath, Brooke and Dylan Combs, Rob (Amanda Wespinter) Dunham, and Tim Dunham. Seven beloved great-grandchildren, Caileigh Crose, Briana, Kendall, and Kamron Foghino, Zane Galbreath, Jolene Combs and Daniel Moser.  Several step grandchildren and greats and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Additional Information

Memorial donations may be left to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Charity of One’s choice.

  1. Fred and I loved Sam and Marietta. Their servant hearts and love for everyone they met touched our hearts on more than one occasion. So sad to hear of their passing and yet, so happy for them as they are in Glory Land! Our hearts go out to their family. We cannot imagine your grief So sorry we are not able to attend the service. We will be praying.

  2. To Sam & Marietta’s Family, Your Parents & Grandparents were Very Special People, I worked for them in 1970, and they taught me to “Press the State Police Uniforms ” Perfectly!!! They were so much fun to work For and With.
    Always Happy and Kind to Everyone. Just think How the Angels were singing the other day when they Both entered Heaven Together !!!! They will Never be forgotten, and I know Your loss is great….And I am sad for that, But Their “JOBS” here on Earth were fulfilled…and they are at peace and No Suffering. Hold Your memories Close and Cherish them…..Gods Blessings to All of You.

We were friends with Sam and Marietta Combs for 50 years and they were like our adopted brother and sister as we did so many things together over the years, and watched our children grow up together. Life on earth is short so live everyday to the fullest. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all their family and remember the good times. They will be missed but remember they were together for a long time on earth and they are still together in Heaven. Sam and Marietta We Love You, and Rest in Peace. God Bless your Family.

  4. Two of the most loving, and caring people I knew. I enjoyed working for them, and was treated like a member of the family! My heart hurts for the family, but what an awesome thing, that God knew how much they meant to each other, and he wouldn’t leave one here to be alone! Together forever in Gods loving arms. ♥️

  5. So sorry to here this, I used to work for them at the cleaners. Such good people. Im sure they will be missed. Prayers to the family. Been a long time since i have seen all of you. I used to babysit for Tim. God Bless

  6. Two of the sweetest people I’ve ever known. Their love for each other and their family shown through everything they did. Their Testimony of love is one of true endearment. The Lord knows what day He will takes us home, and I truly believe taking them together was His most gracious plan. My heart goes out to the family and all who loved them.

  7. Our hearts and prayers go out to the combs family. Intertwined as small town families are, our families have decades of friendship together. We grieve with them in their time of loss. The passing of two wonderful people will be felt in the Combs family and our community. Much love and support in the coming weeks and months. R.I.P. together they will remain always. ❤
