Obituary Notice

Stephen D. Johnson, 72, of Jones, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024 at Corewell Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 7, 1952 in Bessemer, Alabama, the son of Bertrand and Lois (Ezekial) Johnson, and graduated from Tinley Park High School with the Class of 1970.

Steve married Sheila Hansen, his high school sweetheart, on October 21, 1972 – the first ever Sweetest Day. The couple moved to Frankfort, Illinois where they raised their children, and relocated to Jones in 1985.

He owned two businesses, G.B. Feld (a banner and flag company) and currently Associated Attractions (a parade float company).

Family was everything to Steve; he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Whether it was traveling across the country and driving in his motorhome, camping at some of his favorite parks or grilling for family gatherings at the lake, he was lighting up the room with joy and spreading his love to family and friends in his favorite ways.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Sheila Johnson; sons, Eric (Chelsea) Johnson and Ceth (Shannon) Johnson; daughter, Stephanie Allen (Erik Wogoman); grandchildren, Austin, Hunter, Brayden, Gavin, Nevaeh, Serenity, Anders, Simone, Wilder, Legend, Keir, Theus, and Eden; sisters, Cheryl Grotovsky and Phyllis (Bill) Campbell; loved nieces and nephews; and his business associate who has been one of the biggest assets of the company, Chuck Huser, who has worked for Steve since 1975 and was one of his best friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Shane Johnson, in 2023; and his brother-in-law, Ron Grotovsky.
